From flags to festivals to fireworks, people in Calgary are taking advantage of the beautiful summer weather to celebrate Canada Day.

With the sun shining and the mercury peaking around 22 C Sunday, a number of outdoor events are underway to celebrate Canada's 145th birthday, including all-day festivities at Fort Calgary, Prince's Island Park and Heritage Park.

Fireworks will be bursting into the air over the Centre Street Bridge at 10:45 p.m. The city is reminding people that starting at 8 p.m. the following road and pathway closures will be in effect:

  • Pathways from Prince’s Island Park to Fourth Street S.E. and Sien Lok Park to First Street S.E.
  • Centre Street Bridge
  • Centre Street north from Third Avenue south to Seventh Avenue north
  • Samis Road N.E.
  • Memorial Drive south lane from Third Street N.W. to Fourth Street N.E.
