A concert being held Thursday evening to remember five young Calgarians stabbed to death at a party is looking to raise money for memorial scholarships.
Organizers of the fundraiser say they want to honour the memories of Zackariah Rathwell, Lawrence Hong, Kaitlin Perras, Jordan Segura and Joshua Hunter.
Two of the victims, Rathwell and Hunter, were members of the Calgary band Zachariah and the Prophets.
Bandmate Barry Mason, who is also one of the concert organizers, says the money raised by the event is going into scholarships created in the names of the five victims.
"This is that day where what we're doing is getting an entire community together so that we can celebrate their lives as opposed to revel in tragedy," he said.
The High Hopes concert started at 6 p.m. MT at Calgary’s Jubilee Auditorium.
The concert features artwork from local artists and performances by The Fox Who Slept the Day Away, The Ashley Hundred, Windigo and Jesse and the Dandelions.
