Beltline attack leaves man critically injured
Police believe it was a random attack
A Calgary man remains in hospital in critical life-threatening condition after he was attacked in the Beltline area late Wednesday night.
He was assaulted in the middle of the road in the 1500 block of Sixth Street S.W., police said.
Police think it was a random attack. The man was carrying groceries when police believe three people beat him up.
The homicide unit has been called in because of the seriousness of the assault.
"It is concerning to see somebody beaten this severely and we are taking this investigation very seriously," said Staff Sgt. Mike Power.
No one is in custody but investigators are interviewing several witnesses, officials said.
Investigators would also like to talk to the victim when he wakes up.
Police say there is no motive at this point, but stress the public should not be worried.
