RCMP in Red Deer are investigating after two armed men allegedly assaulted officers trying to stop a woman who they say left a store without paying for several sweaters.

At roughly 5:45 p.m. MT on Jan. 10, RCMP responded to a 911 call about an armed robbery at the Hudson's Bay Company at 4900 Molly Bannister Drive.

According to RCMP, a woman entered the Bay, took several sweaters to the women's washroom, placed the sweaters in her purse and then attempted to leave the store.

While exiting she was approached by "loss prevention officers" who were then intercepted by two men who had apparently been waiting in a running black Acura SUV.

One man threatened an officer with a knife while the second male tried to assault the other, according to RCMP. All three assailants then fled the scene in the Acura.
