Police have arrested a suspect in Kenora, Ont. after a woman was shot in a Calgary suburb.

The 51-year-old man was charged Monday with attempted murder, pointing a firearm, discharge of a firearm with intent, choking with intent and break-and-enter with intent to harass.

The charges stem from a shooting on Tuscany Springs Hill in the northwest suburb of Tuscany around 4 a.m. MT Sunday. 

A woman in her 40s was shot multiple times. Police say the victim knew her attacker. She was taken to hospital and is in critical, but stable, condition.

Sometime before Monday morning, a man fitting the description of the suspect was arrested by police in Kenora, Ontario. Calgary police were looking for a while Dodge Caravan, but Ontario Provincial Police said he wasn't in that vehicle when he was arrested.

Police are working to bring him back to Calgary.
