Attempt to improve lake view earns man $20K fine
Province charged man after he cleared vegetation from Gull Lake shoreline
A central Alberta man has been fined $20,000 for illegally altering the shoreline of a lake north of Red Deer in a bid to improve his view.
The man was charged under the provincial Water Act for clearing vegetation from the shore near his property on Gull Lake, 50 kilometres northwest of Red Deer.
Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources Development ordered the man to pay $15,000 towards a project to improve water quality in the lake and another $5,000 as a fine.
