The 2014 Alberta Summer Games got underway in Airdrie Thursday night with opening ceremonies and the lighting of a cauldron at Genesis Athletic Park.

More than 2,600 young athletes and coaches will be taking part over the next three days in 15 summer sports from baseball and basketball to kayaking and beach volleyball.

As video journalist Terri Trembath reports, the event wouldn’t be possible without the work of about 2,000 volunteers.
