A new provincial care program will use best practices from around the world to improve how patients with hip fractures are treated.

Alberta Health Service’s Dr. Kevin Hildebrand developed the provincial program to ensure Albertans get the same level of care, regardless of where they live or are being treated.

"We're trying to improve our utilization of the resources that we have and to standardize the practices that we do across the province…. We are trying to do more with what we have," he said.

The new program covers every step of treatment from a patient arriving at the emergency department to surgery and rehabilitation.

Hildebrand works with Alberta Health Service’s Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network.
