Alberta premier voices concern over auto insurance hikes
The auto industry is seeking rate hikes as high as 13 per cent
Premier Alison Redford says she's concerned about proposed increases in car insurance rates in Alberta.
A provincial board held its annual meeting in Calgary yesterday on insurance rates.
The industry is seeking rate hikes as high as 13 per cent.
Redford was asked on Wednesday morning how she feels about that kind of increase.
"I think that it would be a shame if there were those sorts of rate increases," Redford said.
The premier added the Alberta Automobile Insurance Rate Board is independent of government and has yet to rule on the application for higher rates.
Redford says she'd be willing to listen to Albertans if they feel the current process for setting insurance rates needs to be changed.
