3 Medicine Hat police officers charged with assault
Charges stem from 2012 arrest in which suspect was badly injured
Three Medicine Hat police officers have been charged with aggravated assault after the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigated an incident that happened in 2012.
On Aug. 25, 2012, the three officers were called to investigate an assault at a business in the southern Alberta city.
As the officers arrested a 34-year-old man, the suspect suffered injuries that required hospitalization and surgery, ASIRT officials said.
"I will support our members and trust that the system will sort out the facts," said Andy McGrogan, Medicine Hat police chief.
"I ask that the community also support these members as they and their families go through these difficult proceedings while still serving this community."
The officers will make a first court appearance on July 30 in Medicine Hat.
