Officials have charged a man with first-degree murder charge in connection to a stabbing death outside a northeast Calgary bar last year.

Police were called to reports of a fight at the Sunset and Vine Pub and Eatery on March 17, 2012.

When officers arrived the badly wounded victim was in medical distress and died a short time later.

He was later identified as 23-year-old Mario Alberto Gomez.

The offender left with a group of friends. Police said it was not a random attack.

On Friday police charged a 24-year-old man with the deadly stabbing.

He was already in custody on an unrelated matter.
