13-year-old charged with murder of Gabriel Okeynan

Calgary police have laid charges of second-degree murder against a 13-year-old in connection with the stabbing death of Gabriel Okeynan outside the Marlborough Mall on June 20. He is the second teenager charged in the case.

Police lay charges of 2nd degree murder against second teenager in stabbing death

Police have charged a 13-year-old youth with second degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing near the Marlborough Mall in northeast Calgary last Friday.

He is the second teen charged in the case. Earlier, a 16-year-old was charged with robbery and police say they expect to lay murder charges against him shortly. 

Gabriel Okeynan, 45, was attacked just before midnight last Friday and died in hospital on Tuesday. The cause of death was injuries from stabbing.

Investigators believe the attack was random and the motive was robbery.

Neither teen can be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are not looking for other suspects at this point.
