Police have charged one man and are looking for another after a serious assault at the Calgary Remand Centre.
Police said that on Dec. 2nd two men kicked and punched another man while he waited in a dinner line.
Corrections officers intervened but the victim, who has not been publicly identified, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.
One of the alleged attackers is still in the remand centre.
The second man was released while police were investigating the assault.
Staff Sgt. Frank Cattoni said the second man had served his time and was released before the investigation had been concluded. "I think the [police] service and corrections centre did everything we could at the time, as fast as we could," he said. "[But] we can't hold somebody back if we're not prepared to lay charges or issue a warrant for their arrest."
Jeremy Clifford Thomas, 21, is charged with aggravated assault and is currently in custody at Calgary Remand Centre on another matter. An Alberta-wide warrant has been issued for 19-year-old Jimmy Minh Nguyen.
