One person is dead and another injured after their SUV went into a ditch near Lake Louise early Saturday morning.
RCMP say they were called out to Highway 1, about one kilometre west of Lake Louise, for reports of a vehicle crash in the westbound lane.
When they arrived, they found a dark-coloured SUV had gone into a ditch and both occupants had been ejected.
The 25-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the 32-year-old male driver was taken to hospital in Banff and then airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Collision analysts are on scene helping with the investigation.
RCMP say speed and alcohol are being looked at as possible factors.
One lane of westbound traffic is closed on Highway 1 between Lake Louise and Highway 93 north while the investigation takes place.
