A young girl has been killed and three others taken to hospital in a two-vehicle collision in Erin Woods in southeast Calgary.

The collision occurred at the intersection of 52 Street and Erin Woods Drive S.E. Two vehicles were involved and one flipped upside down.

The lone occupant of a truck involved in the crash has been taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police have confirmed the girl, who is between the age of four and six, was in the van. Two other people who were also in the van were taken to hospital.

It's not clear what caused the collision.

Police say the intersection will be closed for another two to three hours while police investigate.

They are not ruling out alcohol as a factor at this point.
