Metro Vancouver Transit Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man grabbed a young woman, standing on the westbound SkyTrain platform at Broadway and Commercial on Monday shortly before 9 a.m. PT, and pushed her towards the tracks.
'She teetered a bit regaining her balance just as the train was pulling in.' - Anne Drennan
Spokesperson Anne Drennan says it was definitely a close call for the woman.
"She was just standing on the safe side of the yellow safety line so she was close enough that she could have very easily fallen onto the tracks. She teetered a bit regaining her balance just as the train was pulling in."
Drennan says the woman boarded the train and was not seen again. A witness reported the incident to police and officers took a suspect into custody a short distance from Stadium Station. He has been sent to hospital for psychiatric assessment.
Police are trying to locate the woman who is described as an Asian female in her mid-20's, 5'3" to 5'5" tall wearing a grey jacket, burgundy shirt, black tights and dark sunglasses.
They're also asking other witnesses to come forward.
