Woman dead after being hit by semi in downtown Vancouver

A pedestrian died after being struck by a semi truck at the intersection of West Hastings and Richards streets in downtown Vancouver this morning.

A pedestrian died after being struck by a semi truck in downtown Vancouver this morning.

The Vancouver Police Department's Sgt. Randy Fincham issued a statement just after 9 a.m. PT, saying the incident happened at around 8 a.m. at the intersection of West Hastings Street and Richards Street.

The woman died after being rushed to hospital.

"The Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit will be at the scene throughout the day and the intersection at West Hastings and Richards Street remains closed," Fincham said.

The incident is Vancouver's first pedestrian death this year.
