Officials with the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team say their exhibition match against English club Manchester City will go ahead on Monday night.

The game is scheduled for the outdoor stadium at Empire Field, but a temporary grass pitch installed for the game was soaked with heavy rain on the weekend. The wet pitch forced the Whitecaps match on Saturday against another team to be postponed, throwing Monday night's game into uncertainty.

But special pumps and extra manpower was brought in on Sunday to try to drain the pitch for Monday's game.

The weather forecast is for the rain to hold off on Monday afternoon, with a chance the sun may even come out.

"The weather forecast is encouraging, and we are continuing to do everything in our power to bring the pitch to playable condition. Our partners have put forth an outstanding effort and we are very grateful for their participation," said Barber.
