Wagstaffe's Weather: Mainly cloudy Friday

A few afternoon sunny breaks may be the best the South Coast will get on Friday.

Fog and low cloud will be slow to clear for Vancouver

Fog and low cloud have made for a grey start for Friday across the South Coast.

Victoria and the rest of eastern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast is under a fog advisory, with poor to zero visibility through Friday morning.

Parts of Metro Vancouver may clear up in the late afternoon, with temperatures back up to a seasonal 6 C.

The weekend dilemma

An arctic front is moving back down across the province towards the coast for Saturday. At the same time, a Pacific system is tracking towards the South Coast.

Some forecast models keep the cold front out of the South coast, meaning a few showers Saturday morning, seasonal temperatures, and mainly cloudy skies.

Other forecast models have modified arctic air moving into the South Coast before the rain gets to us — that would mean a clear but cold Saturday and Sunday.

Either way — it's not a wash-out weekend. Stay tuned for forecast updates through the day.

Mild, Pacific air will meet cold, Arctic air this weekend and the winner will determine our forecast. (Johanna Wagstaffe/CBC)
