Vancouver police are investigating a series of sex assaults in recent weeks near the intersection of West 41st Avenue and Oak Street.

Sgt. Randy Fincham said Monday, police are investigating the latest incident on Friday night as part of a series of four recent sex assaults in the Oakridge area — all violent in nature.

"It's rare to have violent sex assaults like this," he said.

Investigators are also working with Burnaby RCMP to determine if there is a connection to a number of recent sex assaults in that municipality.

But investigators don't believe the Oakridge assaults are connected to an incident earlier this month in which a 16-year-old was arrested near Oak Street and 12th Avenue.

Police are warning people to be cautious and walk in pairs.
