Victoria police ticket driver for rear-ending cruiser while texting
'Ran into a cop car. OMGGG,' reads tweet on cell phone recovered at collision
A Victoria police cruiser —with an officer and police dog inside — was rear-ended last Saturday night by a driver busy texting, according to police.
The Victoria Police Department said the driver then continued to text her friend about the accident.
"I just got into an accident, OMG. I was trying to txt u. Ran into a cop car. OMGGG," read a text message on the driver's phone which police confiscated.
That message was later tweeted by Victoria police, but has since been removed due to negative reaction from the public.
We’ve removed the tweet with the image. Some of the replies began to resemble public shaming of the driver rather than meaningful discussion—@vicpdcanada

Our hope was to raise public awareness of the dangers of texting while driving, not lead to ridicule of a person injured in a collision—@vicpdcanada
The female driver had a child in the car. Nobody was seriously hurt in the accident according to police and the driver was issued a $167 ticket for using an electronic device while driving.
