A 21-year-old Esquimalt, B.C., man has been charged with manslaughter after an infant was found unresponsive in a downtown Victoria fast food restaurant Saturday morning.

Paramedics and police went to the McDonald's in the 1200 block of Douglas Street just after 8 a.m. PT, after a man walked in with an infant and said the child wasn't breathing.

The child could not be resuscitated.

The man, who had travelled with the infant and a stroller by bus from a home in Esquimalt to downtown Victoria, was taken into custody by the Victoria Police Department.

He has since been charged with manslaughter.

Police believe the man and the infant took a B.C. Transit double-decker bus on route 14, between the 800 block of Craigflower Road and the downtown bus stop at View and Douglas streets, between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police are asking anyone else who was on that bus to come forward.
