Vancouver stabbing spree suspect hospitalized
A man facing multiple charges following a stabbing spree at a Vancouver apartment is in hospital.
Jerome Bonneric’s lawyer Bob Bellows confirms his client jumped from the third floor of the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam early Friday morning.
Bellows says his client suffered serious injuries to his head.
"This is man who is in a state of profound depression who was transferred to a pod on the third floor and went over the railing," he said.
"He has pressure on the brain and possible fractured hip as well as a collarbone."
Bellows says Bonneric is expected to undergo surgery on Saturday.
B.C. Corrections spokesperson Marnie Mayhew says they are taking the incident very seriously, adding B.C. Corrections is conducting a critical incident review to examine what happened.
Bonneric, 33, was arrested and charged with 12 counts of assault after seven people were attacked in the hallways of an apartment building on Barclay Street in January.
