Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo was put under lockdown Thursday.
The university posted an alert on its website for students and staff to "shelter in place until further notice".
RCMP were called with a report of a person on campus with something in his back pocket that looked like a firearm.
The man has not been found, RCMP told CBC News.
The University lifted the lockdown shortly after, posting across its social media channels.
