More than 100 workers at a senior-care facility in Campbell River will have to look for new jobs in the spring.
New Horizons, which is operated by a company called Park Place Seniors Living, has issued layoff notices to the workers, informing them that it plans to contract out operation of the facility.
The workers have been given 90-days notice.
Family members of residents worry the changing of staff will affect the care of their loved ones.
Lynn Guderjah, whose husband lives at the facility, said she's worried because she doesn't think many workers will apply to get their old jobs back.
"I can't see them doing it," she told CBC News. "They don't make very much as it is."
