Vancouver fireworks attract 300K people
More than 300,000 people flocked to Vancouver’s English Bay to take in the opening of the annual Celebration of Light fireworks show.
Vietnam was the first of three countries to put on a pyrotechnic that will take place over the next week.
Vancouver police Const. Lindsay Houghton said there were no major disturbances.
"We have been busy with hundreds of liquor pour-outs and infractions in the downtown core. Talking with our transit police partners, they were also kept very busy on the SkyTrain lines coming into the city," he said.
"We’ve had a few arrests for being drunk in public, a couple of breaches of the peace and we even took a bow and arrow off a young man who was bringing it down for some completely unknown reason."
The team from Brazil is up next on Wednesday, Aug. 1; and Italy finishes the run on Saturday, Aug. 4. Showtime each night is 10 p.m. PT.
