A YVR employee is facing charges of defrauding the Vancouver Airport Authority, but officials are keeping tight-lipped about the details of the case.
Ravneet Kaur Grewal will appear in Richmond court next month on charges of fraud and theft over $5,000 during the period from 2009 to 2012.
"We had reason to believe that a criminal offence had taken place which included loss of money to the airport authority," said YVR spokesperson Robyn McVicker.
McVicker refused to say how much was stolen or what Grewal's job was at the airport authority.
The authority has not decided whether to take civil action to get the money back.
"We have both internal and external auditors and I think this particular situation is an example of processes that have actually worked," said McVicker.
"We continue to review our processes all the time and make any necessary changes, but we have done everything we can to set up a system that works," she added.
The airport authority had revenues of $403 million last year, $107 million of which came from the airport improvement fees collected from passengers.
