TransLink bus hit head on by car, one person dead

Surrey RCMP Sergeant Alexandra Mulvihill says a car and a TransLink bus were involved in a collision at the corner of 84 Ave and King George Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. PT Saturday.

Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant W. Tyson says the car and the bus were headed in opposite directions on King George Boulevard when the car crossed the centre line and hit the transit bus head on around 7:30 a.m. PT, Saturday.

Tyson says the driver, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The car was almost completely destroyed. It also had an "N" or new driver sign on the back.

Surrey RCMP say the bus driver and three passengers were not injured.

King George Boulevard between 84 Ave and 88 Ave will be closed until early this afternoon while the Surrey RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigations Team looks into the incident.

Cause of the crash has not yet been determined and police are not identifying who died until relatives are notified.

They're asking anyone who may have seen anything, or who can provide them with more information to give them a call.
