A North Vancouver toddler has died after he was found submerged in his family's backyard swimming pool.

An RCMP officer responding to a 911 call at about 5:15 p.m. PT Monday was first on the scene on Fairway Place and dived into the pool to pull out the 18-month-old boy, said Cpl. Richard De Jong.

De Jong said the boy's vital signs were absent and the officer immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived.

The child was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital where he still could not be resuscitated, De Jong said.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating along with RCMP.
