Eric Cardinal, 27, killed in Thornhill over the weekend

Police say a 27-year-old man shot and killed east of Terrace, B.C., over the weekend led a life of crime prior to his death.

Eric Cardinal was killed in Thornhill on Saturday afternoon. A 29-year-old woman was also shot and injured.

RCMP Const. Lesley Smith says the shooting was drug related.

"Here we have a horrible report for his family that, unfortunately, his lifestyle has caught up with him.”

Smith says Cardinal had a significant criminal past, and was wanted for weapons offenses and stealing a car in February.

"There was a media release that was sent out a few months ago, where he was wanted with two other males out of Prince George and Terrace. He was located,” she said.

Travis Stephens, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Stephens is expected to make his first court appearance in Prince George on Wednesday.
