A Canada Post worker is recovering in hospital after being attacked near an apartment complex on 132 Street and 105 Avenue in Surrey, B.C., on Wednesday.

RCMP Const. Peter Neily said the 44-year-old man was badly beaten in the attack.

"He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of what was determined to be non-life threatening injuries," said Neily.

Officers initially suspected robbery, but later said the letter carrier's bag and mail keys were not taken. Investigators are now searching for witnesses to the attack, and trying to determine a motive.
