Two major post-secondary institutions in Metro Vancouver are expected to be behind pickets lines on Wednesday as support staff walk off the job to press contract demands.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees are staging strike action at Simon Fraser University campuses in Burnaby and Vancouver, and also walking out at Vancouver Community College.

CUPE says the 1,000 support staff at SFU and the 420 workers at VCC have been without a contract since 2010.

CUPE is also holding a rally in downtown Vancouver Wednesday to draw attention to the disputes.

TransLink said the strike would affect bus service at SFU on Wednesday.

"Service up Burnaby Mountain will travel west on University Drive and around the perimeter, west-to-east. There will be stops outside the tunnel and at the bus loop, but customers will have to walk in from there," said TransLink spokesman Drew Snider.
