Student killed in school auto shop accident
The coroner is investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy at Centennial High School in Coquitlam. The teen was killed when a car fell on him while he was working in the school auto shop.
Coquitlam RCMP Corporal Pierre Lemaitre says the call came in just before nine on Wednesday morning.
"There was a male, a 17-year-old student in auto shop who had been pinned by a vehicle, which by all accounts, had slipped off a ramp of some sort," he says.
Doctors say the student was already dead when he arrived at Royal Columbian Hospital.
Coquitlam School Board spokesperson Patricia Gartland says psychologists are at the school to help teachers, friends and family.
Police say the death is not suspicious, and are now helping the coroner and the Workers' Compensation Board establish exactly what went wrong.
The victim's name has not been released.
