Nearly a dozen people alleged to have been involved in the 2011 Stanley Cup riot have been charged with breaching their court-imposed conditions, Vancouver police say.

Police allege 11 people are ignoring conditions such as curfews, house arrest, entering Vancouver's downtown core or drinking alcohol.

"We've not made these extraordinary efforts just to see some rioters flout the law another time with their disrespect to the courts," said Supt. Dean Robinson on Wednesday.

Since last September, the Integrated Riot Investigation Team started monitoring 42 people who have either been convicted or are facing charges for participating in the June 15, 2011 riot.

Officers have dropped in on people at their homes at night to make sure they are abiding by their curfews.

"We had another individual who we attended their residence and they were not home, upon phoning them they told us that their bus had taken the wrong turn that they're on their way home," said Const. Raj Mander.

"It's frustrating for everyone because when this is all said and done, our goal is to ensure that nothing like this happens again," Mander said.

Police have not disclosed the budget for the Riot Investigation Team's surveillance activities.

Breaching curfew

No one has been convicted of breaching conditions yet but some alleged rioters, including Camille Cacnio, will be appearing in court this week.

Police said Cacnio, a student at the University of British Columbia who had good grades and a scholarship, breached her nighttime curfew.

During the riot, Cacnio was captured on video stealing two pairs of pants from a downtown Vancouver store. She confessed to police, issued a public apology and was handed a suspended sentence that included two years of probation, a night-time curfew and 150 hours of community service.

Cacnio will be tried for breaching her bail conditions on Friday.

Other adults charged with breaching court-imposed conditions:

• Spenser Kirkwood.
• Dustin Wade Anderson.
• Atabak Nosrat.
• Timothy Lau.
• Derek King.

Four individuals who were juveniles at the time of the riot are also alleged to have breached their conditions. Their names have not been released.

More than 1,000 charges have been recommended by police against 315 individuals in relation to the Stanley Cup riots. The Crown has approved charges against more than 168 people. Several dozen have pleaded guilty, but only a handful have been sentenced.
