Transit police are looking for a man in a wheelchair who allegedly punched a pregnant woman at the Metrotown SkyTrain station last month.

Investigators say two young women, pushing their babies in strollers, entered an elevator on the platform level of the Metrotown SkyTrain station around 4:10 p.m. PT on Feb. 20.

Before the doors closed, a man in an electric wheelchair allegedly pushed his way onto the elevator, running over the feet of one of the women, who was seven months pregnant.

An argument ensued, with the woman telling the man she was going to call the police. She then took a photo of him with her phone.

Late on Monday, transit police updated their press release saying they reviewed video surveillance footage and observed that the argument continued in the elevator resulting in slaps and punches being exchanged.

Once on street level, police say the man then punched the woman repeatedly in the face, head and stomach before leaving the area.

The victim suffered numerous cuts, bruises and scratches to her face, hands and legs. She was released from hospital later that evening.

The suspect is described as an aboriginal male, approximately 25 to 35 years old, with black hair, brown eyes, and a moustache and goatee. He was wearing glasses.
