Vancouver police officer struck by car during foot chase
Police are hoping to interview the driver of the car that struck the officer near Stanley Park

A Vancouver police officer was allegedly struck in the head with a rock and hit by a car as he pursued a suspect on Wednesday near Stanley Park.
Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 p.m. PT reporting an alleged assault near the entrance of the park.
When the first officer arrived, he saw the man believed to be involved in the assault at the corner of Alberni and Gilford streets, police said.
The suspect fled north onto Georgia Street, and the officer ran after him.
The officer was then clipped by a car that was traveling west toward the park, and fell to the ground. Police say the officer got up and continued the chase.
As he caught up to the suspect, the suspect turned and allegedly punched him and struck him on the head with a rock.
At that point, more officers arrived and took the suspect into custody.
The injured officer was taken to hospital and treated for numerous abrasions and swelling to his arms, legs and face.
The Vancouver Police Department would like to speak with the driver of a blue or purple sedan that clipped a police officer involved in a foot chase near Stanley Park Wednesday. (CBC)Police are asking the driver of the car that struck the officer, a blue or purple sedan, to come forward. The department would like to interview her about what she witnessed.
The Vancouver Police Department says the driver may have been confused about what to do following the incident.
A 34-year-old Surrey resident is facing charges of assault, assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, assault with intent to resist arrest, and obstructing a peace officer.
