Police say syringes containing heroin and morphine were stolen from a Gastown clinic during an early morning break-in on Sunday.
Nine syringes — which were being used in a research program designed to wean users off drugs — were stolen from the Providence Crosstown Clinic on West Hastings Street near Abbott Street, according to Vancouver police.
Police are concerned that the syringes may contain enough heroin or morphine to cause serious injury or death to someone not accustomed to the dosage.
Drug users are being warned not to take or use the pre-filled syringes. The stolen syringes are not in packages, do not have the usual orange caps and may have a bar code sticker on them.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of the syringes or has any information about the break-in they are asked to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
