No E. coli detected in Chilliwack water
Boil advisory lifted; standby chlorination system remains

Chilliwack's water supply is now free of E. coli bacteria, one day after the city started emergency chlorination of its water system.
Residents of the Greendale area of the city were issued a boil water advisory on Wednesday, after tests indicated a presence of E. coli.
However, further testing showed no evidence of E. coli and the advisory will now be lifted. The standby chlorination system will remain in place until the city finds out why the previous tests showed positive for E. coli.
“We’re going to do an investigation to find out if there was any intrusion into the system,” Mayor Sharon Gaetz said.
“We don’t know what caused it to be positive.”
The latest E. coli scare came only weeks after Fraser Health Authority advised the City to start adding chlorine to its drinking water as a preventative health measure, after E. coli was found three times in samples taken over the past few years.
But Gaetz and MLA John Les both opposed the proposal to chlorinate the water, saying that the level detected was miniscule.
