Officials in the B.C. community of Kamloops are warning parents and students about an escort agency recruiting teenage females through social media.

Angels After Dark has admitted to CBC News it uses Facebook to help find potential employees, but the agency says it stops communication with girls if it finds out they are under 18 years old.

The local school district has put out a warning, but Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said the agency is not known to have done anything illegal.

“So far, there isn't anything, based on the information we have to date, that suggests that has been any wrongdoing. At least, from the very clinical perspective of the law,” Learned said.

Learned said officers have met with school official to alert them to the agency's activities.

The agency appears to be operating without a business license, but that doesn't mean the business can easily be shut down, said Randy Lambright, with the City of Kamloops.

“Unless you can actually go to an address, it is often very difficult if not impossible to try and trace them back, because they’re either on the internet or operating out of town,” Lambright said.

Angels After Dark posted a message on its website Wednesday, reiterating that it does not hire underage girls, but added that it is reviewing its recruiting practices.
