A committee of MLAs at the B.C. legislature has reversed a controversial decision not to re-hire B.C.'s outspoken Auditor General John Doyle, and is now recommending Doyle be re-appointed for two more years.

A statement issued by John Doyle's office said he has yet to decide if he will accept the offer, and that he would not be making any immediate comment on the issue.

The decision comes after Premier Christy Clark said earlier this week she was going to ask the Liberal members on the committee to reconsider their controversial decision not to appoint Doyle for a second term.

Clark also promised to bring in legislation to extend the term of the auditor from six to eight years and limit appointments to a single term. She said that would allow the auditor to do his job without worrying about his re-appointment.

Committee chairman, Liberal MLA Eric Foster, says with the legislation in the works there will never be a controversy again about such reappointments.
