Photographs of a man wanted in connection with the abduction and assault of a teenage girl in Maple Ridge, B.C. have been released by the RCMP.

Police said they also have a piece of the man’s jewelry that they hope might help identify a suspect.

A 17-year-old girl was approached by a man about 8 p.m. PT on Jan. 19 who asked if she could help him get his car started.

He then produced a gun and made the victim drive him in her own vehicle to a secluded location, where he physically attacked and beat her, police said in a release Tuesday.

The victim managed to escape to a nearby residence and the suspect drove off in her car.

She sustained non-life threatening injuries in the attack and was treated in hospital and released.

"After initial media coverage we had several women contact us, describing similar circumstances of a man who approached women near the Westgate Mall, saying he needed assistance," said RCMP Insp. Dave Fleugel.

Police pieced together the information and retrieved the photos from a mall surveillance camera.

"We are also releasing photos of the jewelry the suspect was wearing that evening. The victim managed to rip these items off her attacker during the struggle," Fleugel said.

The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, in his 20s, 5 foot 9 to 11 inches tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt, black puffy jacket with a fur trimmed hood, dark blue jeans, white and black shoes and is possibly associated to a small blue car.
