A 31-year-old Surrey, B.C., man is in custody after he allegedly drove two stolen vans into two police cruisers in the Fraser Valley overnight, prompting an officer to fire a shot at him.
The incident started at about 12 A.M. PT Saturday \when Maple Ridge RCMP located a stolen van on Eagle Avenue in Maple Ridge.
An officer in an unmarked car followed the stolen vehicle onto Cherrywood Drive where the driver suddenly reversed the van into the police car.
The driver then abandoned that van and stole a second van.
As he was driving off, the suspect crashed the second van into a second police vehicle.
A police officer fired one shot during the incidents, Ridge Meadows RCMP Supt. Dave Walsh said in a release.
The driver was not injured by the gunfire but did sustain minor injuries from the crashes, Walsh said.
The man is to appear in court Monday on several charges.
