Police are investigating two armed robberies in Abbotsford in which the robbers wore the mask popularized in the movie Scream.

In two separate incidents, a man wearing the iconic mask — an elongated, ghostly guise — demanded cash from a store employee while wielding a handgun.

In the first robbery, which happened on January 2 at 1 a.m. PT at a convenience store in the 3000 block of Immel Street, the robber got away with a small amount of cash.

In the second incident, at 6 p.m. on January 5 at a gas station in the 31000 block of Livingstone Avenue, a struggle ensued between the employee and the suspect, who then left empty-handed. The employee was not injured.

In both incidents, the suspect fled on foot but Abbotsford police believe there may have been a driver and vehicle waiting nearby.

Police also believe both robberies may have been carried out by the same person.

“If there is more than one suspect involved, it’s possible they may be changing roles,” Const. Ian MacDonald told CBC News.
