Surrey, B.C., teacher facing drug charges

A teacher from Surrey, B.C., is facing charges after allegedly dealing drugs near a Vancouver elementary school.
Plainclothes officers from the Richmond RCMP detachment were in Vancouver on Nov. 7 on an unrelated investigation when they saw the driver of a car conduct what looked like a drug deal with a pedestrian.
Police say the driver also appeared to be smoking marijuana.
The driver was pulled over, arrested and prohibited from driving for 24 hours.
Police say a search uncovered marijuana and "evidence of drug trafficking."
Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde, 41, has been charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Doug Strachan with the Surrey School District say Bahamonde was a substitute teacher.
"The district acted quickly on this information that charges were being laid and suspended the individual in accordance with the School Act, so the person is not teaching currently," Strachan said.
Bahamonde is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.
