The annual Red Ribbon Campaign, aimed at curbing drunk driving over the holiday season, was launched today in Surrey. Emergency service workers from across the region tied red ribbons to their vehicles — a visual reminder for people not to drink and drive.

“I know it's not very comfortable riding in a bus but you know what it's a lot more comfortable being in a bus than in a jail cell or — if you can think of the unimaginable — of killing someone while you were drinking and driving,” said Bob Rorison with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

This is the campaigns 25th year in Canada.

This year, 48 people in B.C. have died in accidents involving impaired drivers.
