A man was killed Monday when his vehicle was engulfed in flames on British Columbia's Coquihalla Highway.

RCMP say the man's vehicle was seen travelling at very high speeds before he failed to negotiate a corner on the highway in Box Canyon.

The vehicle then careened off the highway, before going over the embankment and bursting into flames.

Sgt. Rick Burns of Chilliwack RCMP said the victim is yet to be identified.

"Upon impact, the vehicle was fully engulfed in fire and the identity of the occupant is undetermined," he said.

Burns said the the vehicle was travelling well in excess of the speed limit.

He urged drivers throughout B.C. to use caution and to abide by the rules of the road when returning home from their Labour Day long weekend.
