A 24-year-old woman has become the second person to die following the crash of a small plane near Kelowna, B.C.

Surrey resident Lauren Patricia Sewell was a passenger on the PA 30 Piper Twin Comanche when it went down Monday near Brenda Mines.

She was airlifted to hospital in Kelowna but did not survive and her organs were donated with her family's consent.

Lauren Sewell, 24, was enrolled in BCIT's first-year human resources program.

Sewell was enrolled last year in the human resources program at BCIT. She was also remembered by her colleagues at Kiewit Infrastructure, a transportation company in Vancouver, where she had worked since 2007 in the training department.

"A valued member of the team, Lauren was known for her kind, friendly nature and cheerful disposition," the company said in a statement.

The small plane, which had veered off its planned flight route, tore apart in several pieces when it crashed into a heavily wooded area just off the Coquihalla Connector.

Jayson Dallas Wesley Smith, 30, of Vancouver, died at the scene. Two other people — including the pilot — were aboard the plane when it crashed and have not yet been named. They remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The Coroners Service of British Columbia and the Transportation Safety Boardof Canada are continuing investigations into the crash.
