Supersonic aerobatics have thrilled audiences all weekend at the 50th Abbotsford Airshow, but a little bit of aviation history stole the show Saturday.
A vintage B-25 Mitchell wowed the crowd by dropping mock bombs on the airfield.
Americans flew B-25 Mitchell bombers in the Second World War during the Doolittle raid on Tokyo in1942.
Jerry Vernon, a military aviation historian, said the raid was popularized in the 2001 film Pearl Harbour.
"It was a one-way trip. They would bomb Tokyo and such, and then fly over China and land, and the Chinese would smuggle them out of the country. Well, some did and some didn't," Vernon said.
Canadians were a huge part of the WWII effort, with the third largest air force in the world at the time.
