Two people are confirmed dead and a third is presumed drowned after a tubing accident near Grand Forks, in southeastern B.C.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says a group of about 13 people were floating down the Kettle River just west of Cascade Falls Saturday afternoon when three of them were swept up by the current and pulled over a set of waterfalls.

Moskaluk says one man was pulled out of the river by onlookers, but they were not able to resuscitate him.

Grand Forks, B.C.

“At this time we can confirm that a 74-year-old man from Christina Lake was the individual that was pulled out of the water by witnesses,” Moskaluk said.

“The man’s wife, a 71-year-old woman ... was also swept over the waterfalls.”

The woman's body was pulled from the water by search and rescue crews Sunday. Officials say she was wearing a lifejacket.

A 50-year-old man from Scotland, who was on the same trip but in another vessel, is missing and presumed drowned.

The search was called off late Sunday evening.
