A one of a kind, high-tech chair is giving an Okanagan barber who lost both his legs a chance to open up his shop once again.

Two years ago Enderby's Bob Egely had both legs amputated because of a medical condition and after 40 years in business he was forced to close his barber shop.

But now he's getting ready to reopen after engineers with the Can-Assist program at the University of Victoria built him a $60,000 hydraulic chair that allows him to manoeuvre around his customers.

The chair is actually suspended from his customer's seat allowing Bob to circle right around the customer.

"It does everything I have to be able to get to. It goes from the front of the client so I can have a look at them. It takes me to the back and around the sides. It goes up and down so I can reach my tools," he said after testing out the chair on Thursday.

"It's almost like having legs, just about exactly the same thing. I am truly thankful for all the things that people have been able to do and they have had the courage to go ahead and complete the things they said they would do."

Bob says he excited to re-open his shop to the public next Tuesday.

"It's going to be fantastic. I'm able to carry on with life, and somewhere to go and hang my hat and do my thing."
